Steve Bruce Parts Ways with Newcastle United

In what seemed imminent, the new owners of Newcastle United and manager Steve Bruce have decided to part ways. It was no secret that his days were numbered as fans too wanted Bruce to leave. The club's poor show in recent games exposes the clear lack of focus and effort.

As the Saudi Arabian-backed consortium takes charge of Newcastle, there seems to be a glimmer of hope for the club as rapid changes are expected to occur in quick succession. Bruce’s parting of ways was only one of the many changes the new management wishes to enforce.

And not to forget, Bruce himself knew about this as he had spoken numerous times of the difficulties he had to endure while being the manager. He has often hinted at retirement and talked about the stress and personal abuse he had to go through on the job.

That said, it will be difficult for the management to maintain the squad as there are no replacements lined up to take up the vacant manager’s post. Graeme Jones is acting as the interim manager with Steve Agnew and Steve Clemence alongside him while they search for a new manager.

This could still work as Steve Bruce’s departure might have infused new energy into the team and fans and brought new hope to the side. His professional failings were taking a toll on the team, which was quite visible in their lack of fitness, focus, and energy.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Steve Bruce was hired to take the blame and defend the previous owner, Mike Ashley. Before becoming the manager at Newcastle, he had spent four years away from the top post with very few prospects for the future. Once the offer from Newcastle came, although, with numerous conditions, he was happy to tag along.

But Newcastle doesn’t just need a new manager, it needs a new philosophy. There are a lot of expectations from the new management, but any change will take time. One wrong move and the club could descend into disaster. Mike Ashley’s time had been one of the most perilous for the club as his only aim was to reap financial benefits without putting any effort into the team's betterment. The squad had ageing players and a few talented ones, as renewing contracts is far cheaper than making new ones.

The lack of commitment and focus hit the morale of players and fans alike and once Ashley was out of the picture, it was about time for Steve Bruce’s exit too.

What this means for Newcastle remains to be seen as the search for the replacement continues. With the looming threat of relegation, the next manager needs to be on point. However, for the time being, the fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the era of Ashley and Bruce’s reign has ended, paving the way for a better future for the club.
